My Inside Thoughts Are Poetry

My Inside Thoughts Are Poetry is available at Namaste Bookshop in Manhattan, marking a significant milestone in Akiena’s literary journey as the first Black poet to have her work sold on the shelves of the establishment. Independently published, the book has sold hundreds of copies worldwide and has reached the personal collections of notable figures, including Laurence Fishburne.

Akiena believes that purpose is not something to be pursued or forced, but something that unfolds when one acknowledges and honors the divinity within.

Akiena made an intentional shift to study the great writer’s before her time, the lineage and the impact poets have in activism and history. As a student to the art form she began using her writing as a tool for expression and storytelling.
